Norfolk and Western 2050

The Norfolk & Western #2050 is an articulated locomotive with a wheel arrangement of 2-8-8-2. This behemoth is one of Norfolk & Western's Class Y3a Mallets. The locomotive is essentially two steam engines mounted under one massive boiler. This big girl was used for heavy freight and her power is only recently being equaled by the latest diesels coming from GE and EMD. The Norfolk & Western designed and built it's own locomotives in it's own shops and their steam locomotives of the N&W have a reputation for being the best of the best - rightly so!
