Artist's Comments

I'm sure this one is familiar to everybody - the 1903 Wright Flyer. My latest commission work. I took a little bit of artistic liberty making the sky more blue than it might have been on that history-making, blustery day. I reasoned there might have been the occasional break in the gloom. In any case the light blue compliments the sand color better than a dreary grey. Also, the seagulls are a guess but they must surely have been present in the area and I think they add a nice touch of interest to a scene that has been depicted by many artists. Let's face it, when doing a depiction of one of the first flights, you're pretty much going to have sand and cloudy sky for a background.

Wow, very impressive, I seriously wondered what it would have looked like in color, I like your rendition better than the dreary gray like you said.

Another great job Mark! You can just hear the indignation in the gulls calls at the uninvited flying machine! They're probably saying "There goes the neighborhood!"

Thanks, I'm glad you agree. I found myself wondering allot what it must have been like to be there on that day. What an amazing thing it must have been to see the first real flying machine.
