Artist's Comments

I've recently been incorporating some of my paintings into images of a more commercial nature. This is a faux paperback book cover from days gone by. I'm making them available as posters through Karvon Graphics. [link]

I've got an excellent font that you might like to use for this sort of thing, better than the Stencil one here. Its like Stencil but it has bullet holes in it, and its called Armalite Rifle. Truetype font, I think, but I can't remember where I found it.

yeah, I've got that one too. I didn't want to go with bullet holes as it's been done a million times before.

nice, you're good on making those bombers, but remember that they were supported by TBM Avengers during the attack on the japanese carriers at midway in 1942, done with photoshop? i like it alot...

Thanks. Yes there were several different kinds of aircraft that participated in the Battle of Midway. Six Avengers based on Midway Island participated along with the more numerous Devastator squadrons from the US carriers. It was the virtually suicidal attacks by these topedo bombers that drew off the Japanese fighters to allow the Dauntless dive bombers to successfully attack the Japanese carriers. There were also squadrons of Wildcats that provided fighter cover too.

Of course that was just the US side. The Japanese had their aircraft too but that is another subject. I would love to do a painting of a "Val" one of these days.

Thanks Lyle. We'll see what happens. I'm stepping things up a bit in this bad economy.
