Roland D.VIb by markkarvon Roland D.VIb by markkarvon
The Roland D.VI was used by Germany during the last year of World War I. It featured unique "clinker built" fuselage contruction consisting of overlapping spruce strakes. Overshadowed by the Fokker D.VII, the Roland D.VI was nonetheless a fine performer. The "D.VIb" model was equipped with the Benz III engine and showed good speed and above average maneuverability. This print features the Roland D.VIb of 18 victory ace Emil Schape of Jasta 33.

Thank you. I have to admit I a a bit partial to the German aircraft of the era. You're right about them being colorfulmand there is alot of variety in designs.

This is gorgeous - a perfectly classic aerial painting. It's hard to believe it's digital!

Thank you very much. One of thelesser known but still a beautiful and capable airplane. I get tired of seeing the same old Sopwith Caamels and Fokker Dr.1 Triplanes. There are so many other wonderful types from that period.

I couldn't agree more! I always am interested in the more obscure weapons systems; like what if the B-32 Dominator won out over the Superfortress kind of thing!

I always like the realism that you give to your paintings
would not you like to draw things like science fiction? like a mammot tank of C&C :D That would be great!

Thank you. I would love to do some Sci Fi stuff but I don't know if there is anybody buying that kind of art for $80 a print.

Nice job on this one. Did you do any planes featuring the Hat In The Ring squardon? They flew Spads I think, but it's been a while.

Just terrific, man. I've never even heard of this type of German aircraft. Just the Eindecker, Fokker Dr.I, and the Albatros fighters.

Thank you very much. There were quite a few designs used by all nations during the war. I plan to do a few more from the period.

Nice looking plane, and I like the arrow graphic. Was that Schape's identification mark or general to the squadron?

UNLEASH THE SNIPES!

Nasty plane to fight in simulation, tends to fly away from one. Nice picture, good choice of an individual aircraft to portray. The Hun can at least know that's not Mickey Mannock in the SE5a.
