Rock and Roll Baby by markkarvon Rock and Roll Baby by markkarvon
The M1 Abrams is considered by many to be the best tank in the world today. It's 120mm gun makes it lethal while it's composite armor keeps the crew very well protected. The M1 is powered by a 1500 HP gas turbine engine which makes the Abrams one of the fastest tanks. The M1 Abrams has proven itself in battle during Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. This print features the M1A1Abrams advancing through the desert sands of Iraq with a pair of impressive AH-64 "Apaches" providing close air support with deadly Hellfire missiles.

A great tank, but the Leopard 2 would give it a close run.

the Leopard 2 in most respects are better than the M1A1, an issue fixed by the A2.

In terms of capability between an A2 and a Leopard 2 would all come down to the crew, the tanks are too similar to say one is definitively better than the other

Because the Abrams and Leopard were born from the MBT-70 - a joint US-West German development project for the next generation battle tank.

Here in Australia they gave us the diesel kit for these. Probably a good move, those turbine blades brake far too often and cost quite a bit to repair. Then again, the australian government has spent it's money on less important things :iconhurrhurrplz:

Also, diesel is slower, and when the U.S. Gives other countries equipment, it's dumbed down horrifically, if your M1's were sent to Iraq you would lose the majority while we lost 2, 1 because of IED and area was to hot to tow it out and the other to mechanical failure.

The modern tanks are on a similiar level I think.
I don't see many differences between the Abrams, the Leopard 2 or the Challenger 2 for example.

Your right for the most part, the Abrams uses the Leopard's main gun for example. Those are all some seriously badass tanks. The Abrams is set a part though with it's gas turbine motor; which makes it more maneuverable in terms of quickness.

But the turbine is also very consuming, isn't it? You need more supply.

True. I guess it really comes down to the type of war and/or individual battle scenario as to whether that turbine would set the Abrams apart or be it's grave.

Maybe in 10 years they'll have electro engines and the supply base is a solar park. Who knows?

Also M1A2's have another secret that makes it take out any tank without a struggle. Recently classified information has been past to the public do to the prototype M1A3's being much more advanced. The current day Abrams has multiple inches of Steel composite, Kevlar Mesh, and the thing that makes it nearly invulnerable, Depleted Uranium plates which is field tested to be 5 1/2 times stronger than the steel armor of current day tanks, an Abrams gun could pierce any of those, yet they can not successfully destroy another Abrams, which would explain why every tank we sell to another country is stripped of such things.

hmm I will think that Abrams is good but look at Israel Merkava Mk.IV and Leopard 2A5 which had same gun and same speed; Leopard and Abrams can go near 60km/h:) but Merkava is much more heavier and slower because it had more armor but it construction is irregular for tanks, engine in front, on back space for 6 soldiers with equipment or 4 injuried but art is awesome

the latest modernisation of pretty good Merkava Mk.III which is still in use with 120mm gun and 1200HP engine without gas turbine :) I got model of Merkava Mk III and it is pretty nice

But an Abrams cannot kill another Abrams do to it's Depleted Uranium armor which is 5 1/2 times stronger than steel. So if they have similar guns, the Abrams could only be dented.

Well Abrams had smart technology in it's armor(three layers of it made of steel plate, ceramic air slots and additional ceramic plate) which allows to survive three hits.

The M1 A2 is one of the more advanced of modern MBTs, the A1 had ceramic and steel composite plates but the ( only around 500 of 8000 Abrams are A2's ) but the A2 had the addition of the uranium plates which are 5 1/2 times stronger than standard steel composite, like what a T-90B has, yet the gun wasn't changed, but the AP shells the A2 carries are also uranium infused, but still the layers, Kevlar, reactive armor and all the still classified shit it probably has, it can't be pierced by itself, these more recent versions haven't really seen combat. Except live fire courses against themselves. So yeah, also later this year the A3 prototypes are supposed to be built.

You do know that the challenger shares the most similar type of armor, and speed, and weight, and overall design, and the leopard is the oldest of the modern MBTs and was modified just to keep up right? Plus, the leopard looks no where near the design or main purpose as the Abrams or challenger, kinda odd how it's the oldest, cheapest, well rounded, quickly built tanks and is given to all the nation that will never go back to war for at least 50 years, and Canada has leopards which kinda makes this stick out

Like your other M1 Abrams piece of art, this one is equally amazing. Even more so with the pair of Apaches screaming in the sky above. :D
