F-106 Delta Dart Intercept by markkarvon F-106 Delta Dart Intercept by markkarvon
Here's a little diversion for me. It sprang from a piece I am working on for the same client for whom I did the F-106 and F-16 works. He requested a painting showing both of those airplanes in a two ship formation. I finished the F-106 part of it and thought it would make a nice scene with two Delta Darts. In the future I might change the top ship to a little more of a banking angle away from the viewer but I don't have time right now.

I worked on F-106s in the 84th FIS - these birds would look marvelous 84th tail flashings - any thought of commission works with different tails?

I've done lots of custom markings on my F-106 prints. Here is a link to my webpage which shows some of the more popular units. www.markkarvon.com/f106deltada… I can do one for you if you want to buy a print.

Thanks. It was also known as the F-106 Delta Dart. Mostly it was just plain loved by everyone who came in contact with it.

hey.. I noticed a little bomber under the delta darts slightly forward of them... looked like a speck, til I zoomed in the picture.. then it was definitely a bomber looking aircraft.

Gorgeous piece.. you picked a great angle for the '6'. Something about this shot reminds me of the Vipers from Galactica. ;)

Thank you. Hey you're right about the Vipers. I never noticed it before. I wonder if the Six was inspiration for the design of the Vipers.

I remember Joe Johnston, or John Dykstra originally referring to an F-104, but I wouldn't doubt it if the 106 had some influence.

This one was originally a commission by one of the Six's crew chiefs.

was it the F-102 or the F-106 that was called the duce? I cant remember

We'd see these every once in a while out of Mcchord AFB. Our house was right in their flight path and they'd always make a nuscance of themselves over our house. Still, they had such clean lines

The F-102 was called "The Deuce", the F-106 was known as "The Six". I did a version in the markings of the 318th FIS "Green Dragons" which was the unit that flew them out of McChord. The guys who flew these birds and worked on 'em all loved them. The airp;ane has a great following.

Nothing less than exceptional Mark. I may have asked this before but when you going to do the F-101. My father worked on F-101s in the early sixties. He was stationed at Otis AFB in Cape Cod, Mass. and worked on the 101B. I have a soft spot for the One-O-Wonder.

Thank you Jim. The F-101 is a great airplane. I should have a Voodoo in the cards soon. I've been working to secure a commission piece for a musuem. They are holding off for now but are interested in something for maybe later this year.
